    Referral and guidance service for healthcare professionals

    In October 2024, the Devon Menopause Advice & Guidance Service was launched. It’s a pilot project that all primary care clinicians can access. Speak to your GP about it as patients with complex menopause symptoms who meet the specific criteria can be referred.

    Mental health and menopause support

    If you are experiencing emotional struggles due to menopause, consider reaching out to TALKWORKS. They provide various treatment and therapy options designed to help you feel like yourself again. You can choose the format that suits you best, whether it's online, over the phone, or face-to-face. Additionally, you can self-refer to TALKWORKS without needing to see a GP first. TALKWORKS in Barnstaple is located at 109 Boutport Street, Barnstaple EX31 1TA.

    Exercise, menopause ambassadors

    Active Devon is a community-focused non-profit organisation aiming to get people moving and changing lives for the better. If you’re interested in getting more active, they have lots of resources to explore, including a really helpful section on movement in menopause - read the ‘Movement in Menopause Guide’ here. Active Devon have community-based team leaders across the county, the team lead for North Devon is Hannah Shackleton.

    Research, information and activities

    Barnstaple Library has a good selection of menopause books. Using a library book is a great way to research various areas of well-being and to inform yourself about perimenopausal symptoms.

    Pelvic health

    Braunton-based Rozzy Scott is a physiotherapist specialising in Pelvic Health (Women's Health).

    Rozzy has over a decade of experience as a physiotherapist and has found joy in helping people to live and function to the best of their abilities, achieving goals that are meaningful to them.

    After having children, she realised how important pelvic health is and followed her passion by specialising further.

    Rozzy’s mission as a pelvic health physio is to give women the evidence-based input they deserve, as well as supporting them through their journey.

    Exercise, wellness consultant

    Hannah is a yoga teacher and wellness consultant based in North Devon. With a specialism in yoga for menopause, Hannah hosts Second Spring, a twelve-part educational and yoga practice programme (see website for details). Hannah also hosts one-to-one, in-person, and online sessions, plus retreats.

    Exercise, building self-confidence

    The WARRIOR WOMEN PROJECT offers psychologically informed non-contact boxing classes suitable for bodies of all abilities, races, shapes, and sizes across the South West. They currently run weekly boxercise classes and therapy-informed boxing workshops at the Barnstaple Amateur Boxing Club, EX31 1RL.These sessions are ideal if you're looking for a small group exercise class. They can also be beneficial if you want to manage stress, mood swings, recover from trauma or burnout, or learn techniques to stay calm.

    Appledore-based artists Emma Johnson and Rachel Stanton are advocates of menopause self-care. Alongside their art practices, they have joined forces to facilitate Sketch-Walks. It’s a great way to get out in the fresh air in stunning locations, meet new people and learn some mark-making techniques. These sessions are suitable for complete beginners or anyone wanting to loosen up creatively and connect with nature.

    Loren Leaver is a specialist Menopause and Women’s Health coach and nutritionist facilitating various menopause wellness programmes. In addition, Loren is a qualified and experienced personal trainer, also working in the field of Sports and Cardiac rehabilitation, and Diabetes Practitioner.

    Online resource - groundbreaking exercise that LIFTS and SUPPORTS your pelvic floor

    Hypopressives are a breathing and postural technique that uses breathwork and different poses to generate an automatic contraction of the pelvic floor and deep core muscles.
